Welcome to the official website of the 'Ministry of East African Cooperation' (MEAC). The purpose of this website is to keep our stakeholders and the general public well informed of the progress, opportunities and prospects of the 'East African Community Integration' process. More importantly is to enable them to utilize the benefits and mitigate the challenges arising from the Community. Therefore, information provided aims at motivating and facilitating the public and Private Sector participation in the 'EAC' integration process.
The Ministry of East African Cooperation was established vide Government Notice No. 1 of January 2006. The Ministry is entrusted with the role of coordinating and overseeing the implementation of EAC projects and programmes with a view to accelerating the socio-economic and political development of Tanzania and the Region at large.
The East African Community which is made up by five Partner States, namely, The United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Uganda, Republic of Kenya, Republic of Rwanda and Republic of Burundi is an inter-governmental organization which was established through a Treaty signed on 30th November 1999 and came into force on 1st July 2000. The key objectives of the Community is to realize a fast and balanced Regional development through the strengthening of their economic, social, cultural, political, technological and other ties for their fast, balanced and sustainable development by pooling their resources and potentials. The EAC integration is premised around four broad stages of integrationnamely, the Customs Union followed by the Common Market and then the Monetary Union and ultimately Political Federation. Thus, the 'EAC Partner States' initiate policies and develop instruments geared towards promoting these goals
